56 – Chef AJ and Sharon – Eating and Nutrition – Part 2

This is a continuation of the great and informative conversation I am having with Sharon McRae and Chef AJ on the topic of which foods should we eat and which should we stay away from.

CHEF AJ + SHARON ARE BACK!!!
Dr. Dave had to bring back these two amazing ladies! They are smart and so well educated on THE most healthy options we can chose to nourish ourselves and our families.
 
CHEF AJ’S OVERNIGHT MUESLI
1/2 cup gluten-free oats
2 Tablespoons currants
1 Tablespoon chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon APPLE pie spice
2 ounces apple juice
2 ounces unsweetened almond milk
1 teaspoon alcohol-free vanilla (optional)
1 fresh apple
 
Place gluten-free oats, currants, chia seeds and apple pie spice into a mixing bowl. Add apple juice and unsweetened almond milk. Add alcohol-free vanilla (optional) if using. Grate fresh apple over the top of the bowl. Mix. Place in refrigerator overnight.

JUICING
Dr. Dave loves juicing vegetables with a bit of fruit like an apple. This is a great snack in your day or a great start to your day.
 
START YOUR DAY WITH WARM LEMON WATER
The first thing you should have in the the morning is warm lemon water to detox your body and flush the fat. Just fill a mug with water and heat it up and add a teaspoon or two of lemon juice. Do this before you eat or drink anything.
 
CHALLENGES EATING OUT
Guess what? You can ask the restaurant to make YOUR food YOUR way. You are paying for it! Do not feel bad asking for things your way. Admittedly, during peak hours it may take longer. Look at the side dishes or the kid’s menu. Often there are some good options in those places. Look at the menu online before you go and plan what you can have in advance.
 
LET’S TALK BREAD
Dr. Dave is gluten-free bread and enjoys a millet based bread. Sharon makes tortillas from corn flour or bread from chick pea flour. Many people still want to enjoy breads. There are good, better, best breads. Chef AJ loves a recipe for potato waffles as her bread. Regular white flour bread is absolutely out! It is not a good option!
 
GLUTEN-FREE
People may not test positive in the gluten blood test. However, many people like Sharon and Dr. Dave are extremely tired after they have anything with gluten in it. So is this an intolerance? Well, who knows, but “food should energize you” says Sharon. Gluten made Sharon and Dr. Dave got so tired they would need a nap after meals with gluten.
