DAY ONE

Given the choice, most people would want to be stronger, thinner, healthier, younger looking, more attractive and more confident. So when we look around, why are so many of us not in the shape we wish to be in?

It comes down to motivation.

Do you know that every New Years Day, we make our resolutions, and one of the most common ones is "I want to lose weight." So we join gyms, fitness centers, health clubs, buy exercise equipment, go on diets, etc. etc. etc.  So why do more than 90% of us abandon their programs by April 1? It's not because we suddenly decided that health and fitness is no longer important. It's just that other stuff got in the way and we lost focus.

We were not motivated enough to continue our exercise, our diet, or whatever it was that we started.

DAY TWO

Back in the spring of 1977 I learned all about aerobic exercise from my physiology professor, Dr. Robert Bennett. He taught me that if I simply exercised vigorously for 20 minutes at a time at least three days per week, that most likely my heart would remain healthy for my entire life. As a student, I was spending most of my life in class all day, and at my desk studying at nights and weekends. Because of my schedule, I simply did not get outside much to play sports or to exercise.

But on that day I did realize how important it was for my heart to be healthy. When I got home from school, I ripped off my clothes, put on a pair of cotton gym shorts, a t-shirt, laced up my tennis shoes, and attempted to run around the block.

I felt as though I was going to die. I was out of breath, nauseous, and generally sick. But the next day I went out again and did the same thing. Still felt terrible. So I kept doing it. After about three weeks or so it started getting easier.

I started increasing my mileage. I eventually entered a 5K race which I finished. That led to longer distances such as 10K races. Ultimately, in December, 1979 I completed the Baltimore Marathon. I didn't win the race... just finished it!

I discovered how great I felt simply by getting outside and moving my body. I looked better, was thinner, stronger, and definitely much healthier. I even had a better mental outlook on life simply by moving my body.

Our bodies are designed to move. That's something we cannot change. If we don't move, we will age quickly, gain weight, and be more prone to disease.

But over the past thirty years I have discovered that there is a better way to get our needed aerobic exercise. We don't have to run marathons or do anything extreme. I'm not even so sure that running a marathon is so good for the human body.

The most effective form of aerobic exercise is something that practically all of us can do starting today. We don't need any expensive machines, gym memberships, videos, or other equipment. The type of exercise I am referring to is called walking. In DAY TWO I will show you a way to walk that will transform you into a stronger, thinner, healthier you! It's so easy that you won't believe it!

DAY THREE

There are more diet programs out there than we have ever seen in history. The bottom line: diets don't work. If they did, then why are at least two out of every three of us overweight? I don't diet and I am not going to suggest that you put yourself on a strict eating plan.

But having said that, there are definitely some fantastic healthy foods that you should be eating that will make you stronger, thinner, and keep you healthier than you have ever been in your life. And the good news:  "Dave's Favorite Foods" are available in practically any grocery store or restaurant. 

But it's not just the foods that we eat that are responsible for our health. It's how much of them we eat.  So on DAY THREE I will not only give you a list of my favorite foods, but I will reveal my secret to how to eat them and how often. Once you master this (and it's real easy), you will see excess pounds coming off of your body like you wouldn't believe.  You will be wearing new tighter, sexier clothes, so get ready for DAY THREE. It's a real winner.

Oh, and one more thing. There is one food in particular that I am going to ask you to stay away from. And no, it's not fat. Everyone thinks fat is so bad, but what I am about to tell you in DAY THREE will prove all of them wrong!

DAY FOUR

In DAY TWO we were introduced to aerobic exercise. That's the type of exercise that gets our heart beating fast and steady for a long duration of time. Aerobic exercise is crucial for keeping our heart and lungs healthy.

But having said that, there is another type of exercise that we as human beings need to do. It is generally referred to as strength exercise or anaerobic exercise. Unlike aerobic exercise, strength exercise is generally done in shorter bursts with rests in between.

Strength exercise is normally performed in a gym setting in the form of pushing or pulling weights. The weights could be dumbbells, barbells, machines, or even our body weight (such as doing a pushup or a pull up).

Please don't worry that DAY FOUR is only for bodybuilders and professional athletes. It's not. It's for everyone! In DAY FOUR we learn some very basic exercises with weights that strengthen our muscles. There is no question in my mind that you can do these exercises.  And after doing them you will feel better than you ever have! The bottom line is that if we don't do these pushing and pulling exercises. our muscles will turn to mush and flab. And who wants that?

DAY FIVE

There is a certain type of exercise out there that most people have heard of, some have done a little of, but VERY FEW of us do it routinely. It's called stretching.

I believe that if we all understood why stretching is so important for our bodies, every single one  of us would find the time to stretch our muscles during the course of the day. But since stretching is so poorly understood, we forget about it and simply don't care.

While we are awake and while we are asleep, our muscles tighten up due to various activities that they perform. This is totally normal. It happens to everyone. Now as our muscles tighten, they begin to pull our bones and joints into positions that they don't necessarily want to be in.  This results in pain, stiffness, and various other ailments.

Do you know there are certain little stretching exercises that can be done very easily that could help prevent and reverse many types of pains that we have? I am convinced that a large percentage of people with back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, etc. can take simple measures to improve it or eliminate it.

I was never a big stretching fan until I discovered what a few very simple regular exercises could do for me. Let's just say it was fairly common for my lower back to go into spasm and hurt me for days. Since I have been practicing everything I write about in 'SEVEN DAYS,' I can honestly say that I cannot remember the last time I had back pain, neck pain, or any type of spasm. Those problems are now out of my life, and I hope forever!!!

DAY SIX

I am amazed when I see how much junk we are drinking every day. Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Gatorade, Frapuccino, sweetened tea, etc., etc., etc.  The best thing you could do starting right now would be to get rid of that junk from your diet. Yes, that would be best, but if you feel there is no way that's happening, the second best thing would be to strictly limit them.  You would not believe how much better you would feel and how much healthier you would be once you get those horrible drinks out of your diet.  What should you drink instead? There is one drink that is without a doubt the healthiest on the planet.  Drink it every day and watch what happens to your body!

DAY SEVEN

Can you guess what it is?  DAY SEVEN... you just won't believe it.  Day Seven is the day that ties everything together. It puts it all in perspective. Everyone loves Day Seven.  Sorry, I can't tell you any more right now.  You must experience Day Seven for yourself!
